The Bird’s Eye View:

The holidays are a natural time to show gratitude, but intentional gratitude all year long is just as important. On today’s episode, we’re talking all about gratefulness.

Your Guide:

On this episode of Your Retirement Elevated podcast with Scott Dougan, we’re talking about gratitude – why it’s important and how it can affect your life and the lives of others.

“I think it’s always a good time for me to be introspective, to look back and really take account of what’s great about life – the good things that are there – and just focus on that,” said Scott.

Stephen Covey, author of the best-selling book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” has a great quote to live by – “Life is not about accumulation. It’s about contribution.”

The holidays are a natural time to show gratitude, but intentional gratitude anytime is also important.

“If we have intentionality in what we’re doing, cultivating gratitude is a habit,” said Scott.

Now is a great time to take an inventory of the things you have instead of the things you want. Whether you prefer to journal or write lists, just get something down on paper.

Take time to take a step back. While you’re doing that, consider sending thank-you notes to people who have had a positive impact on your life.

We keep every nice note clients have sent over the years. We keep them in a book and go back to read and reflect on them from time to time. Positive words and thoughts go a long way for other people and can boost your own mood.

So, slow down, take stock of you life and figure out how you can make life better and easier for other people.
